Flicker is designed with privacy in mind. Your photos are yours and stay on your device.
Introduction
Flicker ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Flicker mobile application (the "App").
Information We Collect
1. Photo Library Access
Flicker requires access to your photo library to provide its core functionality:
- What we access: Photos and videos stored on your device
- How we use it: To display your photos for organization and allow you to delete unwanted photos
- Storage: All photo data remains on your device. We do not upload, store, or transmit your photos to our servers
- Control: You can revoke photo library access at any time in your device Settings
2. Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications:
- Purpose: Daily reminders to view memories from past years ("On This Day" feature)
- Frequency: Maximum one notification per day, only when you have memories to view
- Control: You can disable notifications at any time in your device Settings or within the App
3. Analytics Data
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with our App:
Data collected:
- Feature usage (which features you use most often)
- App interactions (buttons clicked, screens viewed)
- Session duration and frequency
- Device type and operating system version
- General location (country/region level only)
- Crash reports and performance data
Data NOT collected:
- Your name, email, or contact information
- Your photos or photo metadata
- Precise location data
- Any personally identifiable information (PII)
- Purpose: To improve the App, fix bugs, and understand which features are most valuable to users
- Provider: Google Firebase (subject to Google's Privacy Policy)
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Core Functionality: Access photos to enable you to organize and delete unwanted photos
- App Improvement: Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and user experience
- Bug Fixes: Identify and resolve technical issues

Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
- All your photos remain on your device
- Swipe session data (your keep/delete decisions) is stored locally on your device
- App settings and preferences are stored locally using iOS UserDefaults
Cloud Storage
- We do NOT upload or store your photos on our servers
- Analytics data is transmitted to Firebase servers (encrypted in transit)
- No backup of your personal data is stored in our cloud infrastructure
Security Measures
- All data transmission uses industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS)
- We implement appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access
- Analytics data is anonymized and cannot be traced back to you personally
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We Do NOT:
- Sell your personal information to third parties
- Share your photos with anyone
- Use your data for advertising purposes
- Share your data with data brokers
We DO share anonymized analytics data with:
- Firebase/Google: For analytics and crash reporting services only
- This data is aggregated and cannot identify you personally

Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights:
1. Access Control:
- Revoke photo library access at any time (Settings → Privacy → Photos)
- Disable notifications (Settings → Notifications → Flicker)
2. Data Deletion:
- All app data is stored locally on your device
- Deleting the App removes all associated data
- Analytics data is retained by Firebase according to their retention policy
3. Opt-Out:
- You can choose not to grant photo library access (App will not function)
- You can decline notification permissions (App will still function)
Children's Privacy
Flicker does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The App is intended for general audiences. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App, please contact us.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase Analytics (Google LLC)
- iOS PhotoKit (Apple Inc.)
Data Retention
- Photos: Never stored by us; remain on your device only
- App Settings: Stored locally until you delete the App
- Analytics Data: Retained by Firebase for up to 2 months (rolling window)
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Displaying a notice in the App (for material changes)
Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
International Users
The App is available worldwide. If you use the App from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States where Firebase servers are located.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information is collected
- Delete your personal information
- Opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
Note: Flicker collects minimal data, and all photo data remains on your device.
